family law

Chestnut Cambronne has been practicing in the area of family law for over thirty years. The family law practice at Chestnut Cambronne is run on a team approach by Dennis Johnson and Mylene Peterson. Together, they have vast experience in all areas of family law, including marriage dissolution, child custody, paternity, antenuptial contracts, parental-rights termination, grandparent visitation, and post-decree issues. Because of its team approach to family law, Chestnut Cambronne prides itself on being totally accessible to clients, day or night. Dennis Johnson and Mylene Peterson work closely with their clients and the court to provide fast, efficient, and readily available service. They have handled family cases in all Twin Cities metro-area counties and throughout Minnesota.

Chestnut Cambronne’s family law attorneys have handled cases involving complex issues of property division and spousal maintenance, sometimes litigating them to the Minnesota Supreme Court. The firm was instrumental in the landmark decision of Nardini v. Nardini, which continues to be the law today in the areas of determining spousal maintenance for a non-working spouse in a long-term marriage and for valuing and dividing a closely held family business.

Because litigation is not always the answer to family issues, Chestnut Cambronne’s family law attorneys also have a long history of working effectively, either through direct settlement negotiations or mediation, to resolve matters without having a judge decide them. Dennis Johnson is a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice, and the firm’s new mediation center is ideally designed for people with family law matters to resolve issues outside of court. Mylene Peterson helps clients who wish to participate in the collaborative law approach to resolving family issues.
