Cort Holten is a partner, shareholder, and the vice-president of Chestnut Cambronne. He is the head of the Government Relations practice group and is also involved in the area of civil litigation. Cort is a frequent author and lecturer on a variety of topics including co-authoring The Minnesota Divorce Revolution; 1989; 2nd Edition, 1995. He has been rated by his peers as one of the best practitioners in the area of government relations in the State of Minnesota and is also rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell.

For over thirty years, Cort has successfully handled significant and complex matters in both the courtroom and legislative arenas, including:

  • Successfully litigated In re Giblin before the Minnesota Supreme Court, resulting in the adoption of the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act in Minnesota.
  • Conceived of and developed statutory statewide sentencing guidelines system. Now a national model.
  • Developed the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (POST).
  • Successfully litigated the famous Nardini v. Nardini case before the Minnesota Supreme Court.
  • Successfully fought the battle to establish low voltage technology as a separate industry in Minnesota and established the legal and statutory framework for its protection.
  • Conceived of and developed the first interstate horse race simulcast wagering system. This is now the central revenue feature of horse racing nationwide.
  • Created the Card Club at Canterbury Park.

Cort is a member of both the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations, the Minnesota Government Relations Council, and numerous committees of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.
